Introducing the Hornby TT:120 BR Class 08 0-6-0 Diesel Shunter, running number 08817—a finely detailed model that captures the enduring legacy of Britain’s most iconic shunting locomotive. Finished in striking BR Blue, this TT:120 gauge model is a faithful representation of the locomotive as it appeared during Era 8 (1986-2005).

The model features directional lighting and fully operational headlamps, enhancing its presence on any layout. The DCC-ready design allows for seamless digital control with a DCC Ready 6 pin socket.

To create an authentic Era 8 setting, pair the Class 08 with suitable rolling stock including HAA Hoppers to reflect the locomotive’s continued use in industrial freight operations or complete the scene with a brake van which was frequently coupled with shunting locomotives during yard movements.

History

Built at Derby Works, this 350hp shunter entered service in August 1960 as D3985 at Tyseley Depot in Birmingham. It moved to Saltley in late 1967 before going north of the border into Scotland, serving at both Haymarket, Edinburgh and Ferryhill, Aberdeen before receiving its TOPS number 08817 in November 1974. The locomotive transferred to Thornaby in the 1980s wearing BR blue, but was later given a repaint into an eye-catching black livery complete with the depot’s white Kingfisher motif. It was withdrawn in May 2004 and cut up by the end of the year.
